By joining us with a monthly donation, you will become a Médecins Sans Frontières Field Partner and your gifts will help us provide medical care to even more people who might otherwise have access to none.
When The Ebola outbreak began in West Africa in 2014 Médecins Sans Frontières had a fully equipped emergency team on the ground and ready to go within days of confirmation of the outbreak. And when Nepal was devastated by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, we mobilised teams of surgeons, medics and logisticians to treat patients and reach people in remote areas.
The funding provided by our Field Partners meant we were able to act immediately. And as a Field Partner, you’ll help provide the ongoing funding we need to carry out our long-term medical programs – from treating people for chronic illnesses like HIV and TB, to reducing infant and maternal mortality rates.
“People deserve the same care no matter where they’re from. It’s definitely not an experience where you come back thinking, ‘I’ve done my bit and can go and drink lattes now.’ That sense of responsibility just deepens.”
Brett Adamson, Nurse from Australia
Australian Operating Theatre (OT) nurse Rachel Marsden began working with Médecins Sans Frontières in 2008.
Most recently, Rachel coordinated a mass vaccination campaign in Nyarugusu refugee camp, Tanzania, in response to a cholera outbreak. Over 100,000 Burundian and Congolese refugees were vaccinated in under two months.
She recently spoke about her progression from OT nurse to Field Coordinator and the impact she has seen this work have:
“Working as a Field Coordinator in Tanzania is a far cry from my role as nurse with Médecins Sans Frontières, but I am loving the experience and the new challenges – to say ‘there is never a dull day’ would be an understatement!
This work has opened my eyes to a whole different role Médecins Sans Frontières plays and I am proud of what we are doing here.”
Rachel Marsden is a field worker from Australia. She has now completed 11 missions with Médecins Sans Frontières in countries like Cameroon, Haiti, and Myanmar, with much of her experience being in epidemic and emergency response settings.
Every day more than 24,000 Médecins Sans Frontières field staff are providing assistance to people caught in crises around the world. Your monthly donation will support our work in countries like Syria, Afghanistan and Central African Republic.
