International Women’s Day: Because I’m a woman...
More women and girls than ever before are currently forcibly displaced — at last count an estimated 32 million worldwide. Women and girls face health risks and danger on their migration journey, simply because they are women.
Women on the move are:
· At higher risk of sexual violence
· Have greater chance of pregnancy complications
· Increased stresses on mental health
Across the spectrum of their journeys, displaced women and girls urgently need care in five key areas: obstetric care, family planning, safe abortion care, sexual violence care and mental healthcare.
Only then can they have the chance to navigate their health as they search for safety — and reduce the ongoing risk of sickness, suffering and death.
Follow in the footsteps of five amazing women we met on their journey.
