Nigeria: Notable absence of men in Maiduguri

The conflict opposing Islamic extremist group Boko Haram and the Nigerian army that began in May 2013 has resulted in massive population displacements and a humanitarian emergency in the northeast of the country. Over 1.2 million displaced people now live in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, in extremely precarious conditions.
