According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 1000 women die each day during childbirth or due to a pregnancy-related complication.

An avoidable crisis

The top 5 causes of maternal death can be avoided when a woman has access to a skilled birth attendant, the necessary drugs and equipment.

In a number of acute and chronic humanitarian crises around the world, Médecins Sans Frontières is working to save the lives of women and their babies, providing emergency obstetric care in around 30 countries.
