Médecins Sans Frontières Australia’s constitution provides for nine members on the board. Eight are elected at the Annual General Meeting and one is nominated from Médecins Sans Frontières France. The eight elected members are mandated for a three year term on a rotational basis. All members of the board are volunteers and are not remunerated for their work for Médecins Sans Frontières Australia.
Dr Nicholas Coatsworth | Nick Coatsworth was elected to the board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in May 2008 was elected Vice-President in May 2009. In 2010 he was elected President and reelected in 2011. Nick is a Sydney-based doctor who joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 2004. He has worked in the field in Congo-Brazzaville, Chad and Sudan in the Darfur region. In the field he has worked as a doctor and field coordinator in areas such as primary healthcare and measles vaccination campaigns. |
Ms Véronique Avril | Véronique Avril was elected to the board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in May 2009. Véronique is a Member of the Médecins Sans Frontières France board representing the Médecins Sans Frontières Australia board in Paris. |
Mr Peter Hooker | Peter has been a board member of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia since 2001. He was re-elected in May 2006 and again in 2009. Based in Sydney, Peter is a finance specialist and small business owner with a background in chemical engineering and investment banking. Peter has been the treasurer of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia since 2001, prior to which, he provided pro bono financial guidance and support to the organisation for more than two years. |
Mr Dino Asproloupos | Dino was elected to the board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in May 2008 and reelected in 2011. Dino has worked and volunteered with Médecins Sans Frontières in various capacities –in Athens as Project Manager Reintegration in 2002, as a governance consultant with the Médecins Sans Frontières International Office in Geneva in 2002 and as Project Manager/Acting General Director Médecins Sans Frontières Greece in 2004. |
Dr Kamalini Lokuge | Kamalini was elected to the Board in May 2010. |
Ms Jane Coster | Jane Coster was elected to the Board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in 2010. Jane originally trained as a nurse and a midwife and joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 1995. She completed a number of field placements with Médecins Sans Frontières in Afghanistan, South Sudan (five placements) Indonesia, China, Sierre Leone and Eritrea, completing her last placement in Zimbabwe in 2002. |
Dr Stewart Condon | Stewart was elected to the Board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in 2011. Stewart has a diploma in paediatrics and is currently working as a coordinating doctor for International SOS in Sydney. Prior to this, Stewart was working as a locum career medical officer and district medical officer on call in various remote locations in NSW, Northern Territory and Queensland. Stewart has been involved with Médecins Sans Frontières since 2004 in projects in north Sudan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as medical doctor, field coordinator and medical coordinator. |
Mr Hichem Demortier | Hichem was elected to the Board of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in 2011. Originally from France, Hichem is currently based in the Northern Territory working as General Manager, Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation in Darwin. He has 14 years of experience in management of profit and not-for-profit projects and organisations in France, Australia, Asia, Africa and the Middle-East. He has worked in the field with Médecins Sans Frontières as emergency coordinator supervising finance and human resources in Africa, Asia and Middle East from 2004 to 2006. |
