Médecins Sans Frontières supplies Mosul hospitals after violent attacks

Iraq / 16.07.08

Yesterday there were six deadly attacks in the city of Mosul, in northern Iraq, including four car bombs and two suicide attacks. Médecins Sans Frontières continues to provide medical supplies to city hospitals that are receiving large numbers of wounded people.

Around 90 blast victims were admitted to one of the hospitals supported by Médecins Sans Frontières. As a first response to yesterday's blasts, Médecins Sans Frontières today sent medical supplies to Mosul hospitals from Amman, including anesthesia supplies, dressings, and medication. Médecins Sans Frontières contacts in Mosul are assessing further needs.

While the dangerous security situation does not allow Médecins Sans Frontières teams to work directly in Iraq's conflict zones, the organisation has established a presence in Amman, Jordan, as well as in the Kurdish provinces in northern Iraq. From there, Médecins Sans Frontières is supporting hospitals in the war zones of northern and central Iraq with medical materials and staff training.
