- In Guayaquil town, which has the highest HIV prevalence in the country, Médecins Sans Frontières supports the local hospital and opened new specialised health centres, including three maternity units, providing free access to counselling and testing, antiretroviral treatment (ARV) and health education.
- Following eruptions of the Tungurahua volcano in 2006, Médecins Sans Frontières provided support to more than 3,000 displaced people, supplying medical and material aid, including shelters and hygienic kits.
- Medical material to support rehabilitation of the local hospital and health centres in the area was also supplied.
