DRC: Communities in Northern Katanga
caught in ongoing conflict
Thousands of people in the Mitwaba region of Northern Katanga in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (DRC) are living in fear, fleeing their villages and hiding
in forests to escape violent clashes between the Congolese army and the Maï-Maï,
the local militia groups. Médecins Sans Frontieres’ (MSF) emergency
teams, working among displaced people in the area for over six months, have witnessed
the plight of the more than 80,000 people caught in the continuing conflict....

Angola: a survivor’s story
in the fight against Marburg
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been working with
the Angolan Ministry of Health and the WHO since Marburg disease was officially
confirmed in March. Two months after the outbreak, some positive signs in the
fight against the disease have begun to show. The number of new cases is decreasing
and the situation at Uige provincial hospital has improved, however MSF teams
must remain vigilant to prevent fresh outbreaks.... »

Two MSF staff members abducted in
the Ituri district of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Since mid afternoon on June 2nd 2005, Médecins Sans Frontières
has lost contact with two of its staff members who were travelling by road in
a clearly marked and identified vehicle towards the Jina IDP (Internally Displaced
Persons) camp situated 35 km North of Bunia, the capital of Ituri district....

Rwandan Refugees in Precarious Conditions
in Burundi Camp
Thousands of Rwandan refugees are living in precarious conditions
in the Songore transit camp in Burundi’s northern province of Ngozi, 20
km from the Rwandan border. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is concerned
about the unacceptable living conditions in the camp where lack of food and water,
and inadequate shelter are weakening the refugees’ health and increasing
the risks of epidemics and malnutrition....
